FFE's mission is to bring about a transformation in the lives of academically brilliant and economically underprivileged students in India. The Foundation's mission is achieved through a Scholarship Program that enables scholarship awardees to continue and complete their higher education

Eligibility Criteria

New, first time applicants are eligible to apply for a scholarship only when they are in the first year of a professional degree course in engineering, technology or medicine. 
To qualify for a scholarship, applicants must meet certain academic excellence and family income requirements.

Academic Eligibility

The academic eligibility criteria for professional courses in engineering, technology and medicine are:  
  • Current FFE Inc. and FFE India Trust scholars and new, first time students applying for scholarships to begin studies in professional degree courses in academic year 2010-11 should have passed the higher secondary school, pre-university or intermediate college board examinations not earlier than in 2008.
  • Only professional degree courses (BE, B Tech and MBBS) are eligible for scholarships.
  • Current FFE Inc. and FFE India Trust scholars and new, first time applicants seeking admission to state level professional education institutions should have obtained an open/general merit rank at the state or national entrance tests as per the table given below.  
  • Where no state level entrance test is conducted (as in the case of Tamil Nadu state), an open merit or general admission or counselling rank awarded by a recognized state authority will be taken into consideration.  Such ranks are generally determined on the basis of the qualifying marks obtained by the applicant in an examination specified by the respective state government.   
  • Some relaxations in the academic excellence criteria may be provided to applicants who do not meet the rank criteria specified in the table below.  To be eligible for such relaxations, applicants should have done their higher secondary school/pre-university or intermediate college studies in local or state government schools or colleges and should have obtained admission to government owned engineering, technical and medical colleges.
  • Applicants who have obtained admission to IITs, regional NITs, and central, state and municipal medical colleges on the basis of national level tests (JEE, AIPMT, etc.) will be considered as special cases on the basis of their respective merit ranks and financial need.

      The above rank levels by states are based on the official intake or seats as authorized by the All India Council of Technical Education or the Medical Council of India.  The maximum eligible ranks are generally based at about 15% to 20% of the total authorized intake or seat capacity for the entire state. 

Family Income Criteria

   The income eligibility criteria include the following.
  1. The gross family income criteria are Rs. 1,20,000 per year.
  2. In addition to gross family income, education and occupation of parents and family members and family living conditions will be taken into consideration for determining the financial eligibility of an applicant.
  3. If one child from a family has already completed higher education and has started earning, another child from the same family will not be considered.
  4. Where parents' of applicants are employed, a salary/pay slip from the employer is required. The salary/pay slip should show the family member's gross monthly salary with full details of basic salary, all allowances and deductions. The employer and the facilitator should certify the salary/pay slip. Submission of an Income certificate from a local or other government authority in lieu of a salary/pay slip is not acceptable.
  5. Where parent(s)/guardian(s) are retirees/pensioners, a pension statement from the pension authority and/or from an authorized bank showing the gross monthly pension of the family member, inclusive of any supplementary allowances and before any deductions is required. Pensioners should also provide documents to show the official status or designation, gross salary drawn at the time of retirement and the name of the employing organization. If the parent/guardian has recently retired under a voluntary retirement scheme, reasons for retirement, and amount of lump sum benefits received on retirement should be disclosed
  6. Where parent(s)/guardian(s) are in business or self-employed, income certificate issued by any government authority or income tax return should be submitted in support of the gross family income specified in the application. Specific details of the nature and size of the business or self-employment should also be provided.
Where parent(s)/guardian(s) are agriculturists or have farming or cultivation as their source of income, an income certificate from a recognized or competent authority should be submitted   Details of the nature and size of the land holding, crops grown, etc. wet or dry land irrigation should also be provided.
